General Questions
NoSleepMode is a simple tool that prevents your computer screen from dimming or going to sleep. It's useful when you need your screen to stay on during presentations, file downloads, video rendering, or any other task where you don't want your computer to enter sleep mode.
It works by using the Web Wake Lock API, a standard browser feature that tells your operating system to keep the screen awake.
Yes! The core functionality of NoSleepMode is completely free and always will be. You can use the basic wake lock feature, toggle dark/light mode, and keep your screen awake without paying anything.
For power users, we offer NoSleepMode Pro ($4.99 one-time) which includes advanced features like auto-disable timers, scheduling, per-site rules, and keyboard shortcuts.
No account is required to use NoSleepMode. Simply open the website and click the button to keep your screen awake. The tool works entirely in your browser without any registration or login.
If you purchase NoSleepMode Pro, you'll receive a license key via email that you can use to activate Pro features on your devices.
No. NoSleepMode operates entirely in your browser and doesn't collect any personal data, usage statistics, or browsing information. We don't use cookies for tracking, and we don't share any information with third parties.
We use Vercel Web Analytics for basic, anonymous page view statistics, but this doesn't track individual users or collect personal information.
Using NoSleepMode
- Open NoSleepMode in your browser
- Click the large "Start" button in the center of the page
- The button will turn green and show "Stop" when active
- The status indicator below the button will show "Active"
- Keep the NoSleepMode tab open while you work
- Click "Stop" when you no longer need to keep the screen awake
For the web version, yes. The wake lock is tied to the browser tab, so you need to keep the NoSleepMode tab open for it to work. You can switch to other tabs or applications, but if you close the NoSleepMode tab, the wake lock will be released.
If you need wake lock functionality without keeping a browser tab open, consider using our native desktop applications for Windows or macOS, which run in the system tray.
The wake lock may be released when you switch away from the NoSleepMode tab, depending on your browser. However, NoSleepMode automatically re-acquires the wake lock when you return to the tab.
For best results, keep the NoSleepMode tab visible in a corner of your screen, or use a separate browser window alongside your main work.
Yes, but this is a Pro feature. With NoSleepMode Pro, you can enable the auto-disable timer to automatically stop the wake lock after a specified number of minutes (1-480 minutes).
This is useful when you know how long you need the screen to stay on, like during a 2-hour download, and don't want to forget to turn it off afterward.
Browser & Compatibility
NoSleepMode works with all modern browsers that support the Screen Wake Lock API:
- Google Chrome: Version 84 and newer
- Microsoft Edge: Version 84 and newer
- Opera: Version 70 and newer
- Safari: Version 16.4 and newer
- Firefox: Version 126 and newer
- Samsung Internet: Version 14.0 and newer
If you're using an unsupported browser, NoSleepMode will display an error message explaining the limitation.
If NoSleepMode isn't working, there are several possible reasons:
- Outdated browser: Update your browser to the latest version
- Unsupported browser: Some older browsers don't support the Wake Lock API
- Page not visible: The wake lock requires the page to be visible
- Battery saver mode: Some power-saving modes may override wake locks
- Corporate policy: IT-managed devices may block wake locks
Try using a different browser or our native desktop application as an alternative.
Yes, NoSleepMode works on mobile devices with supported browsers. However, mobile browsers may have stricter power management that can override the wake lock in certain situations.
For the most reliable experience on mobile, ensure:
- Your browser is up to date
- Battery saver mode is disabled
- The NoSleepMode page stays in the foreground

Troubleshooting
If your screen is still going to sleep while NoSleepMode shows "Active," try these troubleshooting steps:
- Check the status indicator: Make sure it shows "Active" with a green dot
- Keep the tab visible: Don't minimize the browser or switch to other tabs
- Disable battery saver: Power-saving modes can override wake locks
- Update your browser: Ensure you're using the latest version
- Check system settings: Some aggressive sleep settings may override the wake lock
- Try the native app: Desktop applications have more control over system power management
If the start button isn't responding:
- Check for error messages: An unsupported browser will show an error below the button
- Refresh the page: Sometimes a simple refresh fixes the issue
- Clear browser cache: Try clearing your browser's cache and cookies
- Disable extensions: Some browser extensions can interfere with page functionality
- Check the console: Press F12, go to Console, and look for error messages
NoSleepMode itself uses minimal system resources and doesn't significantly impact battery life. However, keeping your screen on does use more power than letting it sleep.
To minimize battery usage while using NoSleepMode:
- Lower your screen brightness
- Use the auto-disable timer (Pro feature) to automatically stop when you're done
- Remember to stop NoSleepMode when you no longer need it
